Roam: Daytime Showcases - Kathleen Tagg & Andre Petersen, The Hermes Experiment, Trio Zukan12.00-12.30 | Kathleen Tagg & Andre Petersen (USA/South Africa)
Renowned South African pianists Kathleen Tagg and Andre Petersen came of age in the momentous years following the end of Apartheid in South Africa. They met in 1996 at the University of Cape Town, in the heady and optimistic days following Nelson Mandela’s election as president. The duo performs ‘Where Worlds Collide’, uniting the rich sonic tapestries of classical music and jazz ,with the nuances of South African jazz and indigenous music. Compositions by Tagg and Petersen share the programme with works by South African jazz composers like Abdullah Ibrahim, Bheki Mseleku, Moses Molelekwa.

12.45-13.15 | The Hermes Experiment (United Kingdom)
The Hermes Experiment is a real winner! This contemporary quartet, bonded by harp, clarinet, voice and double bass, holds the Tunnell Trust Award (2017), Non-Classical Battle of the Bands (2014) and was Park Lane Group Young Artists in 2015/16. With an almost obsessive – and for the lister completely compelling – sense of energy and dedication they explore every possible combination of their instruments. The result? Idiosyncratic, novel, unpredictable. So in this short show expect a thrilling dose of their unique arrangements, compositions and improvisation.

15.30-16.00 | Trio Zukan (Spain)
Trio Zukan bring together an unusual combination of instruments: the accordion, percussion and txistu - a fipple flute that became the symbol for the Basque folk revival. Curious already? The Trio recently published a cd called ‘Soinuzko Begiradak’, which features some of their most significant works so far.
